GM names Robinson VP of environment, energy and safety

General Motors Company on September 3 announced that Michael J. Robinson will become vice president, environment, energy and safety policy. Robinson will replace Beth Lowery, who has elected to retire effective October 1.

Robinson, 54, joined General Motors in 1984 and has held a number of positions on the General Motors Corporation Legal Staff. Before assuming the North America General Counsel role in 2008, he served as a Practice Area Manager on the Legal Staff and then Managing Attorney responsible for a variety of regulatory functions including environmental and vehicle regulation policy as well as marketing and trade regulation issues. Prior to that, he was responsible for GM compliance activities and among other things led development of the General Motors Guidelines for Employee Conduct. During the 1990’s he also provided counsel to General Motors leadership on matters involving lobbying and government ethics issues.

Mike graduated with a B.A in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1977 and served as an officer in the US Air Force from 1977-1981. He received an M.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Oklahoma State University in 1980 and a J.D. from Villanova University in 1984.
