Standards associated with electric motor testing

IEEE 519-1992 is the Recommended Practices and Requirements for Harmonic Control in Electric Power Systems. Section 10 - Recommended Practices for Individual Consumers discusses voltage and current distortion limits. These limits are applied to the point of common coupling (PCC), which is the point between the non-linear load and other loads within an industrial plant. For a utility company the PCC is the consumer-utility interface. Maintaining compliance to the harmonic limits at the plant level PCC should ensure that the utility PCC does not exceed the limits specified in Table 10-2-Low-Voltage System Classification and Distortion Limits. The general system limit for Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is 5 percent and the general system limit for notch depth is 20 percent.
