A comprehensive, independent report found that the key to increasing competitiveness is having a “hands-on” problem solver available to your company. An independent third-party study of 750 Southern California manufacturers receiving consulting services stated that more than 80 percent polled had recorded increases in competitiveness as result of implementing changes recommended by California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC).

“This survey validates CMTC’s mission to help Southern California leaders improve their business by investing in change,” says David Braunstein, president and CEO of CMTC. “By stepping up and taking advantage of new production and management strategies, they are improving their bottom-line and staying in business.”

The 2009 survey, conducted independently by Turner Marketing, found that strong improvement comes about through CMTC’s practice of combining education, training and consulting. Benefits from these services were noted as substantial and having major implications for supporting a healthy California economy. The services are under the federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program.

A more detailed study of some 60 manufacturers in the report who committed to “consulting-intensive” change, found a direct correlation between their improvements and adding jobs, staying in business and remaining in California. This study reported that an unprecedented 94 percent of these 60 companies said improvements were significant to growing business and adding jobs. Additionally, more than 80 percent of these companies said improvements were significant to staying in business and a near 60 percent said improvements enabled them to continue working in California.

“Because manufacturers provide ladders to high-paying manufacturing jobs, they are a safeguard in California’s economy,” adds Braunstein. “It’s critical they are given the tools to remain competitive and get our economy back on track.”

CMTC is an affiliate of NIST MEP, under the Federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program, a network of more than 60 centers across the country that provide assistance to manufacturers.
