Iowa Lakes Community College has been awarded a gift in kind totaling $10,000 from Megger.
Megger, a manufacturer of high-quality instruments used for testing and maintaining transformers, batteries and underground cables, donated to Iowa Lakes Wind Turbine Energy Program equipment that will give students very marketable hands-on experience during training.
Megger’s commitment to promoting the education of engineers and to advancing the adoption of renewable energy sources has allowed the company to provide Iowa Lakes Community College with the following instruments: DCM340 clampmeters used for measuring currents in cables without disconnecting them, MIT400 Series insulation resistance and continuity testers, a DLRO10HD dual-power 10 A low resistance ohmmeter, a wind turbine lightning protection test lead set, and a DET4TCR2 four-terminal earth/ground resistance.
Megger has also supplied a quantity of “Stitch In Time” books, a complete guide to electrical insulation testing, “Getting Down To Earth” booklet, a practical guide to earth resistance testing. The manuals will be used in various classrooms and offer practical methods of testing.
Doug Zemler, Wind Energy and Turbine Technology instructor at Iowa Lakes Community College, is thrilled about the equipment that Megger has donated. “The testers that were donated are very hands on. I am very excited to have these available because it makes the students very marketable to the industry and allows them to have a working knowledge of using the instruments,” Zemlar said.
“The gift of meters and books allows Iowa Lakes to reinforce its status as the premiere wind energy program in the nation,” according to Jolene Rogers, executive director of Institutional Advancement. “We celebrate Megger thinking of the college and its students. Their gift and continued support is greatly appreciated.”
