New Zealand's Heavy Engineering Research Association's (HERA) director, Dr. Wolfgang Scholz, explains the drive and benefits behind the newly launched Competitive Manufacturing Scheme to bolster the metals engineering industry in these difficult economic times. Based on the Toyota lean manufacturing system and adapted to New Zealand conditions, the scheme is conducted jointly by Productivity Solutions Ltd. The scheme will assist companies in streamlining workflows, improving efficiencies, cutting costs, reduce cost overruns, retain and train staff, among other things.
