The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized the management and employees of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions in Broomfield, Colo., as a merit site in OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
The site, which manufactures sealing and bearing systems for the automotive and aerospace industries, was acknowledged for achievement in its employee safety and health program. Member sites meet or exceed the program's safety and health elements, which far exceed minimum OSHA standards.
"Recognition as an OSHA VPP site can only be achieved when employees and managers work together with a dedicated focus on workplace safety and health excellence," said Greg Baxter, OSHA's regional administrator in Denver.
Bob Glover, OSHA's assistant regional administrator, presented a VPP flag and plaque to the Trelleborg team at a ceremony on September 29.
The VPP offers employers a unique opportunity to move beyond traditional safety programs by recognizing participants that successfully incorporate comprehensive safety and health programs into their total management systems. The VPP is open to deserving employers in any industry.
Requirements for application to the VPP, which has more than 2,030 sites in the country, include a high degree of management support and employee involvement, a high-quality worksite hazard analysis, hazard prevention and control programs, and comprehensive safety and health training for all employees. Each of these elements must be effective and in operation for at least one year before applying to join the program.
